Hot days and soothing pool dips are a match made in heaven, but the warmer Summer weather can actually cause problems for your pool or spa.

The extra sun exposure, temperature spikes and increased use of the pool can create issues for pool owners. Most owners don’t realise how much more attention pools require during Summer, especially when they are getting more use.

The prolonged exposure to the sun’s UV rays burns chlorine, which is needed to kill bacteria, and hotter weather also promotes algae growth.

With Summer being the prime time for pool use, the increased swimmer load adds contaminants like sweat, body oils and sunscreen which wash-off in the water and affect the pH levels whilst encouraging bacteria. This can cause swimmer health issues such as throat, eye and ear irritations.
